This is an eclectic auction. We travelled far afield to pick up collections and estates. Out to Lake Erie to get cottage decor and a cool collection of vintage Christmas decorations. Up north to Creemore and Listowell to pick up everything from stone sculptures to farm antiques. Most of the art comes from an art professor’s estate in Toronto. East to Oshawa for select pieces of art, antiques and carnival items from life-long collectors.
We are continuing to help downsize a major collection of toleware, lighting, early forged iron and furniture. Many pieces come with local provenance often written on tags attached to the antiques.
One of the coolest things that happened this time is that we got to go “picking”. We explored the granary and lower sections of a Halton County barn and pulled out along with cobwebs and straw dust several neat country antiques, farm weigh scales and tool boxes. There are very few opportunities anymore to go right to the source and find “farm fresh” antiques. It was lots of fun.
In this auction we have just a few books, but they are noteworthy. The Canadian 1st edition by Ogle Gowan on Orangeism is very scarce. There aren’t any first editions available through ABE Books. The other first edition of M.M. Shaw’s “9000 miles on a Pullman Train” is of interest to railroad collectors across North America. We even have 5 volumes of hard bound books by Winston Churchill translated into Danish. In English the title is “The Second World War: These are Churchill’s War Memoirs”.
There are loads of country store collectibles and antiques in this auction. Candy scales, NCR cash registers, a paper roll holder and a neat multi-drawer store cabinet. There’s even a tool which is tobacco cutter, cork squeezer and nut cracker all in one. What more do you need?
The Christmas tree decorations could decorate several homes. There are many wreathes, candy canes, bird tree ornaments, tinsel, lights and early Santas. Many are in their original boxes. Here’s your opportunity to fill “your stocking”.
